DR. RAOUL GOLDBERG
Dr. Raoul is a licensed medical doctor who has been practicing Integrative Medicine for the past 45 years. His medical journey over this time has combined anthroposophic medicine, homeopathy, functional medicine, nutritional medicine and psychotherapy into a practice of medicine that treats the whole person,- body , soul spirit – in partnership with a supportive community and a healing environment.
This brand of holistic medicine called Participatory Medicine engages with the patient or client as an active and integral partner in the diagnostic and therapeutic program.
Dr Raoul is also a writer, workshop teacher and researcher having recently completed his PhD in Transpersonal Psychology.
I have three great passions in life:
- To reunite Medicine and Psychology to become the art and science of a Whole Person Medicine – a true Body-Mind-Spirit Medicine.
- To reconnect the healing of the Whole Person with the healing of the Whole Community and the Whole World
- To help people help themselves, thus enabling them to help others and thereby contribute to changing Community and the World
At Path to Health, my medical practice, cancer center and training institute have been set up to do this.
I graduated as a medical doctor in 1974 at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and thereafter trained for seven years in anthroposophic integrative clinics in Switzerland and Germany in general medicine, cancer therapy, pediatrics, nutritional therapy and psychiatry. This training also involved finding a deep connection with the therapeutic arts, movement sciences, body healing practices (massage and hydrotherapy), the manufacture of natural medicines and an intensive study of nature. I learned about the essential nature of the mineral, plant and animal kingdoms. Later I trained in homeopathy, integrative medicine, acupuncture, clinical nutrition, functional medicine and psychotherapeutic counseling. Ongoing learning and networking with colleagues internationally have been an integral part of my healing journey.
Since 1983, I have been working in an integrative general practice in Cape Town as a specialist practitioner in cancer, addictions, child development and mental health, as a school doctor for the Waldorf School movement, and since 2002 as a transpersonal and participatory psychotherapist.
I am also passionate about the care and protection of children, since the first ten years of life provide the foundation for a healthy body and mind. I have lectured widely and written many articles on subjects related to child health and child development. My first book Awakening to Child Health Part 1 was published in 2009. My second book Addictions in Childhood and Young Adults – the struggle for Freedom was published in 2011. A third book on Participatory Health is soon to be published.
I am actively promoting and teaching a way to deepen experience called the PATH Method based on sharpening and strengthening the natural functions of human experience. On this foundation I am practicing a style of medicine which I call Participatory Medicine that makes use of the PATH Method to explore the deeper causes of illness and to awaken latent innate powers of healing. Please see the PATH Method for more.
In 2021 I was awarded a PhD in Integral and Transpersonal Psychology where I investigated the effects of the PATH Method Counseling in stress reduction. The years ahead are dedicated to sharing the fruits of my learning journey through regular share talks, introductory seminars and a modular learning programme.
