This is a time honoured procedure whereby warm filtered water is gently introduced by gravitational pressure into the rectum to help cleanse the colon of toxins, gas, accumulated faecal matter and mucus deposits. Using sterilized equipment in every patient, the trained therapist will irrigate the whole colon, progressively softening and eliminating deposits which are piped away with the waste water. At the same time the liver and lymphatic system are stimulated to promote the detoxification process. The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes and is conducted with the greatest care and discretion. It is safe and beneficial to anyone suffering from toxicity from any cause where resulting elimination will assist the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Colonic hydrotherapy may be used for a variety of conditions: These include constipation, diarrhea, colitis, spastic colon and irritable bowel disorders, diverticular disease, haemorrhoids, allergies, liver sluggishness, halitosis, chronic fatigue, skin problems (acne, eczema, psoriasis), intestinal candidiasis and depression.
It can also be used as a complementary technique to assist other therapies. By improving elimination, response to dietary, homeopathic, herbal, manipulative and other therapies can be markedly improved.
It is also of benefit prior to and following barium enemas and during therapeutic fasting.
At the Syringa Integrated Health Centre, patients are referred to Kate Fowles for colonic hydrotherapy as an important part of a holistic treatment programme
